TY - JOUR PY - 1994// TI - Ada and the new work place culture JO - APWA reporter A1 - Prior, A. SP - 10 EP - 11 VL - 61 IS - 4 N2 - According to a May, 1993 U.S. General Accounting Office report, which released the results of a survey of owners and managers of various businesses, 31 percent reported they were not familiar with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Forty-seven percent did not know they were to remove barriers before the 1992 ADA effective data. Additionally, only one-quarter of those surveyed had specific plans for future barrier removal, yet no establishment was free of all barriers. There are a number of issues that ADA has influenced: (1) ADA is changing how people think about themselves in relationship to the work setting. (2) ADA is a reflection of heightened environmental concerns. (3) ADA is making us aware that we can do a better job when it comes to work place accommodations. (4) ADA should be viewed as a blueprint for the work place of the future.
