TY - JOUR PY - 2001// TI - Doing something different in anti-icing operations JO - APWA reporter A1 - Kaar, S. SP - 31 EP - 32 VL - 68 IS - 10 N2 - Anti-icing techniques used by the city of Naperville, an urban community outside Chicago, have proven enormously effective. After the city began applying small amounts of snow and ice control chemicals twice a weak on a regular basis, the number of "call outs" experienced by local police dropped significantly. During a "normal" winter, police would receive about 10 call-outs, typically for slippery conditions or icing on bridges. In the winter that Naperville began its anti-icing campaign, the city had only two call-outs. In each of the following two winters, during which applications were expanded into other parts of the city, police experienced only one call-out.
