TY - JOUR PY - 2006// TI - Snow Removal Procedures in Westminster JO - APWA reporter A1 - Sexton, Pat SP - 26 EP - 28 VL - 73 IS - 10 N2 - This article offers a procedural overview of the city of Westminster snow removal operations. The September prior to the winter in question, all plows are calibrated so as to distribute 200 pounds of deicer per lane mile, of which Westminster has 1,025 miles. Employees are also instructed in snow plow operations at this point. The city has 17 snow removal-equipped trucks: fourteen tandem dump trucks, three single axle dump trucks, eight with v-box spreaders, and nine with drop-type sanders. Operators divide their staff into two crews, with seventeen drivers, one loader, and two storm supervisors apiece. The city's procedure divides roadways into primary routes, secondary routes, and residential areas, and similarly divides storms into four categories: one inch or less, two inches or less, two to eight inches, and eight inches or more. In 2007 all trucks will be equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS).
