TY - JOUR PY - 2009// TI - California's Highways: Finding a Creative Way to Blossom JO - California transportation journal A1 - Witt, John SP - 23 EP - 25 VL - IS - 3 N2 - Floral landscape designs underwritten and cared for by private companies have cropped up along California highways as part of a new Caltrans program called Enhanced Landscape Planting, or ELP. Toyota Motor Corporation and Greenroad Media, along with several other private concerns, are Caltran’s first ELP partners. Fashioned after Caltrans’ Adopt-A-Highway Program, ELP enlists sponsors to install and maintain computer-generated detailed plantings along state highways and freeways in four California counties. The program reduces maintenance costs by allowing private companies to develop landscaping that they can take credit for. The program uses Greenroad Media’s computer-generated patterns, which serve as a template for the floral designs.
