TY - JOUR PY - 2009// TI - Momentum: Vectoring in an New Approach JO - Collision: the international compendium for crash research A1 - Russell, C. SP - 30 EP - 37 VL - 4 IS - 2 N2 - The current method of teaching "360° Momentum" has been oversimplified to the point where instruction has become a process of applying formulae by practice instead of a focus on the underlying theories and principles. This paper considers some of the rules that have developed concerning the use of 360° Momentum and presents an alternative approach to teaching momentum that does not include the restrictions that exist with the traditional, formula-based method. The proposed method simplifies the teaching of underlying concepts behind the conservation of linear momentum. In this method, the student only needs to understand how to mathematically define how momentum is conserved rather than relying on formula sheets.
