N2  - After defining "paratransit", the author gives a description of the various types of paratransit modes which exist in India. A comparison is made between the characteristics of mass transit and paratransit modes, the main difference between the services being in the organisation set-up. The article sets out the proposed objectives which paratransit policies should aim to achieve. Some details are included of the growth of paratransit in India, and two models are proposed to estimate the demand for these modes. (TRRL)<p />
