TY - JOUR PY - 2002// TI - Simulation of traffic at four way stop sign intersections JO - Indian highways A1 - Singh, R. SP - 25 EP - 37 VL - 30 IS - 4 N2 - A computer model simulating traffic behaviour at an unsignalised cross roads is described. Potential delays to individual vehicles depend on the flow at the cross roads. Stop signs are used to indicate traffic priority. Data from cross roads in Kanpur City, India was used to validate the model. Assumptions made in the model include that the intersecting roads are major roads of equal priority and that there are no pedestrians. Full details of the model inputs including queue behaviour are provided. The model indicated that above a specific traffic volume, delays at the cross roads increased exponentially, which was borne out by the real life data. The simulation was modified to accommodate the behaviour of cyclists moving to the front of the queue, as was observed in Kanpur.
