TY - JOUR PY - 1999// TI - The effects of motivational and perceptual-based interventions on fatigue-related decrements in simulated driving performance JO - Vision in vehicles A1 - Desmond, P.a. Some findings on the topic indicate that de-motivation in the fatigued driver may account for fatigue-related impairments when the demands of the driving task are low -- impairments in lateral control of the vehicle are most evident when driving on a straight road. The findings of the present study have clear implications for in-vehicle countermeasures to fatigue. Such countermeasures should seek to raise the fatigued driver's level of intrinsic motivation since fatigue acts to reduce the driver's interest in the driving task.
