S. SP - 335 EP - 342 VL - 5 IS - 4 N2 - SummaryA prospective study of the social circumstances surrounding burnt children and of the detailed causation of their accidents was carried out on 826 children admitted to the Adelaide Children's Hospital Burns Unit. The study has shown that certain groups of children have a higher risk of being burnt than the rest of the population. It highlights the areas in the environment where burns are likely to occur, such as scalds to toddlers in the kitchen and bathroom and flame burns to all age groups outside the house. The South Australian burns prevention programmes are outlined.
