TY - JOUR PY - 1981// TI - Alcohol safety programs in the Federal Republic of Germany JO - Proceedings International Council on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety Conference A1 - Heinrich, Hanns Christian SP - 1271 EP - 1282 VL - 1981 IS - N2 - Sponsored by the federal highway research institute, two alcohol safety model programs were developed between 1976 and 1978: a so-called "behaviouristic approach" based on principles of behaviour modification and an approach based on the ideas underlying Adler's individual psychology. Both forms of treatment consist of 13 sessions, two hours each, with 10 participants on the average. The training objectives of the "behaviouristic program" are to develop and/or improve the ability to analyze one's own behaviour and to define aims of behaviour, to apply self-control measures to develop alternatives of behaviour to replace drinking and driving, and to impart new knowledge about drinking and driving. The aim of the "individual program" is to impart a better insight into one's self, less striving for personal superiority, more feeling of fellowship or communal sense, and a better insight into the problems of others because that would result in relativizing one's own problems and a better feeling of competence. The programs are now being tested on a large scale. The final report on the evaluation, including that of two other models for which the technical surveillance organizations (tuv) are responsible, will probably be available at the end of 1982. the experience gained hitherto are quite promising.
