TY - JOUR PY - 1981// TI - The drinking road user in great britain JO - Proceedings International Council on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety Conference A1 - Sabey, B. A1 - Staughton, G. SP - 96 EP - 112 VL - 1981 IS - N2 - The paper reviews recent trends in accidents and offences related to drinking and driving in Great Britain, quantifying the problem in terms of blood/breath alcohol levels where possible. The involvement of different road users is considered. Epidemiological studies which give a new insight into drinking habits and characteristics of offenders are described, together with a report on the role of the drinking pedestrian in accidents. The needs for further research to identify more effective countermeasures are discussed in the light of the present state of knowledge, and proposals to meet the needs outlined. (TRRL)
