TY - JOUR PY - 1981// TI - Violence and alcohol JO - Proceedings International Council on Alcohol, Drugs and Traffic Safety Conference A1 - Pintot, I.e.n.j. A1 - Carneiroien, J.h. SP - 262 EP - 265 VL - 1981 IS - N2 - In Portugal the most important problem related with violent death and alcohol is due to road accidents, and there is yet no legislation about alcohol consumption, except in the Azores where the legal value fixed by law is 0,8 g/l. This value is considered too high for the road traffic in Portugal, considering the large number of motor vehicles in circulation, the bad quality of the roads and the great number of fatal accidents. The most reasonable value should be 0,5 g/l, but even if with this value, the number of fatal accidents continues to increase, it is proposed that it should be forbidden to drive a motor vehicle with any quantity of alcohol in the blood. 7000 post mortem examinations were done at the institute, and the relation between death and alcohol was examined.
