TY - JOUR PY - 1989// TI - Biomechanical model for pressure transmission into the lung, with application to blast injury and blunt thoracic impact JO - Proceedings of the International Research Council on the Biomechanics of Injury conference A1 - Oeters, D.i. A1 - Morfey, C.l. SP - 99 EP - 110 VL - 17 IS - N2 - The intrathoracic pressures produced by exposure to air or underwater blast waves of short duration are predicted using a simplified one-dimensional model. The theoretical model is then used to explore the protective effects of various added layers worn as jackets. Predictions are compared with results from a laboratory simulation model based on a water-filled shock tube.
