SP - 288 EP - 298 VL - 3 IS - N2 - An experiment using rabbits was performed to determine the degree of injury to the eye and facial skin on impact with an inflating air bag. Permissible safety thresholds were derived from the experimental results. It is reported that the time required for a human to blink is 28-217 milliseconds. Since the inflation time of commercial air bags is 25-35 milliseconds, it is entirely conceivable that eye injury could occur.
