TY - JOUR PY - 1976// TI - The effects of the environment on some ski bindings JO - Journal of safety research A1 - Bahniuk, E A1 - Izant, TH SP - 30 EP - 37 VL - 8 IS - 1 N2 - A research program was undertaken to determine the effect of environmental factors on the efficiency of modern ski bindings. The method used was to apply pure moments and combined loads to skis mounted with various bindings. The loads transmitted to a simulated tibia were measured. Binding performance was measured before and after subjecting the binding to environmental conditions. The effects of dirt, ice, salt corrosion, vibration, and repeated use were studied. It was found that the ice test had the most serious effect on binding performance and that none of the tested bindings protected a simulated skier under all the environmental test conditions.
