N2  - This paper describes a study conducted on a 600-mile-long area along the eastern seaboard of the U.S. stretching from Portland, Maine, in the north, to Norfolk, Virginia, in the south. The aim was to determine if this area could be considered, in certain respects, as a single urban region, and also to explore the significance of such a determination for future city, regional, and transportation planning.<p />
