N2  - The principal purpose of a traffic study should be to develop a master plan of transportation facilities that will serve the area being studied for years to come, with expectations that benefits will accrue for future years to come. It is imperative that the planning consider future traffic volumes. For a case study, the article discusses a traffic study conducted for the Detroit Metropolitan Area in 1953. The study considered future volumes from two points of view: estimates of change in volumes, and, estimates of change in the geographic distribution of traffic throughout the area.<p />
