TY - JOUR PY - 1987// TI - Drug induced disease as a cause of admission to a country hospital JO - New Zealand medical journal A1 - Mackay, M. J. SP - 592 EP - 594 VL - 100 IS - 832 N2 - During 1983, 15% of admissions to the medical ward of Kaitaia Hospital resulted from ill effects of prescribed medication. Tranquillisers, digoxin, beta-blockers, other hypotensive drugs, and nonsteroid antiinflammatory drugs were the offending agents in 73% of these admissions. Drug induced illness makes an important contribution to the work-load of a general medical ward, and more care in the prescription of these classes of drugs might substantially reduce this contribution.
