TY - JOUR PY - 1998// TI - Personality Characteristics and Traffic Accidents of College Students JO - Journal of safety research A1 - Smith, David L. A1 - Heckert, TM SP - 163 EP - 169 VL - 29 IS - 3 N2 - The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between three personality variables (risk seeking, chronic self-destructiveness, and self-esteem) and traffic accidents and citations. Seventy-six students at a small midwestern university participated in this research. A negative relationship was found between self-esteem and actual accidents. The relationships of accidents to risk seeking and to chronic self-destructiveness failed to reach significance. In addition, a relationship between citations and chronic self-destructiveness that approached significance was found.
