A1 - Jones, Craig SP - 207 EP - 220 VL - 16 IS - 3-4 N2 - Experiments with a walking traction test (Rig 3) designed in 1987, have continued. It has proved to be a safe, rapid and convincing method of measuring the slip-resistance of solings and floors. A method of preparing flat-slab solings has been refined and can be used to compare the coefficients of friction (cof) of solings and floors by eliminating other variables. Research with Rig 3 has confirmed the findings of work with two earlier rigs, that a microcellular polyurethane compound type T66/103 is the safest soling so far discovered for use on floors subject to contamination by mineral oil. The authors believe that the very large number of injuries caused by slipping on oil could be reduced immediately by the specification of this soling for engineering works and garages.
