They were middle-age women, separated from the aggressor, coming from a low average socioeconomic status, underemployed, with an average educational level and socially isolation. Domestic violence was characterized by severity, the length of violence, the early establishment of the relationship and the high frequency of abuse. The percentage of Mexican and immigrant women who were victims of sexual violence is higher. Spanish women showed higher social support and also had a bigger economical dependency towards the aggressor. Personal and family background of aggression, as well as violence against children, were more frequent in Mexican women.
