N2  - Training has become almost an axiomatic part of accident prevention strategies, but it is questionable whether the level of analysis and the development of training programmes is sufficiently high to produce the return expected. Without this investment safety training is in danger of getting a bad name. The paper reviews the safety training provided in the UK and illustrates with examples of research results the mismatch between the requirements of effective training and the provision given.     <p></p>
