Journal of Occupational Accidents, 7: 33-40.The purpose of this paper is to propose physiological and psychophysical performance ceilings to reduce overexertion in one-handed industrial tasks. Three recent scientific studies, dealing with one-handed industrial tasks such as lifting at the work-station or carrying items during the course of production or assembly line operations, are briefly reviewed to establish some preliminary guidelines. In the absence of any extensive work in this area, these guidelines should prove useful to industry in optimizing human performance.<p />
