TY - JOUR PY - 2005// TI - ‘Why is a Woman Still Not Safe When She's in Her Home?’ : Seven Years of NIBRS Data on Victims and Offenders of Intimate Partner Violence JO - Criminal justice studies A1 - Purkiss, Marcus A1 - Skow, Karen A1 - Stohr, Mary K. A1 - Vazquez, Salvador SP - 125 EP - 146 VL - 18 IS - 2 N2 - The descriptors of intimate partner violence at the state level have rarely been empirically explored. In this examination of seven year's of one state's National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) data, we delineate the descriptors of victims, offenders, their relationships and the extent of injury sustained by the victims. We discovered that our findings mirror those of the best national victimization studies in three important respects: the victims of IPV tend to be female, young and disproportionately minority; the offenders tend to be male and slightly older than the victim; and injuries and offenses against female victims were more serious than those experienced by males.
