TY - JOUR PY - 1987// TI - Incident investigation and hazard evaluation using differential scanning calorimetry and accelerating rate calorimetry JO - Journal of occupational accidents A1 - Snee, TJ SP - 261 EP - 271 VL - 8 IS - 4 N2 - A large number of industrial accidents have been caused by runaway exothermic reactions. The thermal stability of a material can be assessed using differential scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and accelerating rate calorimetry (ARC). This paper describes how these techniques can be used to elucidate the cause of an accident and shows how maximum safe process and storage temperatures can be calculated using thermoanalytical data.
