TY - JOUR PY - 2001// TI - Breast Cancer: Feminism, Representations and Resistance – a Commentary on Dorothy Broom’s ‘Reading Breast Cancer’ JO - Health (London) A1 - Wilkinson, Sue SP - 269 EP - 277 VL - 5 IS - 2 N2 - In this commentary, I identify two sets of coercive ‘discourses and practices’ which typically oppress women with breast cancer: the imperative of concealment and the notion of personal blame and responsibility for their illness. I examine how a feminist analysis can support and encourage resistance to such coercive ‘discourses and practices’, and I argue for a thoroughgoing feminist approach to breast cancer more generally.
