TY - JOUR PY - 2004// TI - When Advocacy for Domestic Violence Victims Backfires JO - Violence against women A1 - McDermott, M. Joan A1 - Garofalo, James SP - 1245 EP - 1266 VL - 10 IS - 11 N2 - This article argues that although victim advocacy in domestic violence has brought significant improvement in victim services, there are instances in which advocacy backfires: The very interventions designed to help and empower victims contain the seeds of disempowerment.
