N2  - This phenomenological study explored the childhood experiences of women from southern Appalachia who had survived intimate partner violence. Three essential themes were derived: living as if an orphan, surviving in chaos, and manifesting a devalued self. These themes were congruent with findings from other research studies. These themes can provide insight for providers as they care for children and adolescents.<p />
