TY - JOUR PY - 2008// TI - 'The interface of psychic trauma and cultural identity within Arab American groups post-9/11': Comment JO - Trauma, group, and couple therapy A1 - Buchele, Bonnie SP - 235 EP - 238 VL - 32 IS - 3 N2 - Comments on an article by Nora Alarifi Pharaon (see record 2008-12740-006). The author's article does indeed shed considerable light on the interface between trauma, groups, and Arab American cultures-an area that has been dark and unknown, at least to most of the Western group psychotherapy world. article provokes thoughts about individual dilemmas that arise when Arab American women experience the traumata described in the article, special characteristics of the group process, and the leadership of the groups. There are also special group process aspects with this population. The group provides a completely new life experience for these women in double jeopardy. As Dr. Pharaon points out, managing the countertransference is challenging when treating traumatized individuals, especially if some parts of the same trauma have been experienced by the leader.
