SP - 15 EP - 20 VL - 13 IS - 2 N2 - The aim of this paper is to present the background and analysis of the effectiveness of a marking used on automobiles driven by elderly persons in Japan, the "Silver Mark" or "Elderly Driver Mark". The population of 65 years and older has grown to 13.5 million which constitutes 11.2% of the total Japanese population. At the same time, the number of elderly persons who own automobiles has increased remarkably.
