TY - JOUR PY - 2000// TI - Apocalyptic suicide JO - Mental health, religion and culture A1 - Littlewood, Roland A1 - Dein, Simon SP - 109 EP - 109 VL - 3 IS - 2 N2 - As the current millennium draws to a close, there are increasing media reports of violence among cult members. This paper presents a provisional typology of apocalyptic suicide and analyses the factors associated with it. These factors include: a strong dualistic philosophy, a leader with total control over the movement, and relative isolation in the presence of apocalyptic teachings. The role of mental health professionals in dealing with these groups is discussed.
