TY - JOUR PY - 1995// TI - Metal detectors at airports can be activated by orthopedic metal implants JO - Ugeskrift for Laeger A1 - Sperling, K. P. A1 - Gebuhr, P. H. SP - 2153 EP - 2154 VL - 157 IS - 15 N2 - Former studies have shown that orthopaedic metal implants have little or no effect on airport metal detectors. In Copenhagen Airport, we have tested ten different protheses for hip and knee arthroplasties and plates for internal fixation in two metal detectors. The outcome for the protheses depended on the adjustment of the detectors, whereas the plates did not activate the detectors. The security staff recommend that passengers with orthopaedic implants should carry a statement from a medical doctor.
