N2  - It was observed that childhood period is a temporary phase in the development stages of growth of an individual. This paper discusses the concept and characteristics of childhood stages; research priority areas of childhood education, and the need for studies in School readiness, further highlighted is the need for studies in diagnosing school learning difficulties. Finally, implications for the Nigerian counsellor was given.
