TY - JOUR PY - 2003// TI - Correlation Between Suicide Rate and Antidepressant Use in Slovenia JO - Archives of suicide research A1 - Oravecz, Robert A1 - Czigler, Balazs A1 - Leskosek, F SP - 279 EP - 285 VL - 7 IS - 3 N2 - Major descriptors of Slovenian suicide statistics are presented for the 13-year period ending in 1997. The purpose of the present study was to discover whether the introduction of antidepressant therapy influenced the Slovenian suicide dynamic. Collected national data on the rate of suicide and seasonal dispersion of suicide were compared with the prescription rates of antidepressives for the same period. No significant correlation between increased antidepressant prescriptions and decreased suicide rate were found. A possible decrease in the springtime suicide rate was observed. The Slovenian data, presented in a recent article, suggested some precaution toward descriptions of strong correlation between suicide and antidepressant therapy.
