TY - JOUR PY - 1980// TI - Evangelical Life Style Concerns Expressed in Political Action JO - Sociology of religion A1 - Lorentzen, Louise J. SP - 144 EP - 154 VL - 41 IS - 2 N2 - This paper extends and applies the theory of status politics, derived from Weber's conception of status group, to a non-economic political movement of conservative evangelical Christians. It is argued that a perceived decline in morals and a perception of legislative issues that symbolically support a more liberal element of American society motivated these evangelicals to political action. In the bid to place a candidate of like orientation in political office was seen the possibility to legitimate and thus protect the conservative lifestyle to which these evangelicals are committed.
