TY - JOUR PY - 1996// TI - Investigation of eyestrain and working capacity for female crane operators JO - International journal of industrial ergonomics A1 - Li, GT A1 - Wei, LG A1 - Han, JP A1 - Li, Chang-Ji A1 - Long, Yun-Fang SP - 221 EP - 224 VL - 18 IS - 2-3 N2 - Ninety-three female mobile crane operators (with an average age of 27.8 years and average length of service of 8.8 years), exposed to poor environmental conditions, noise, vibration, CO and dust, were investigated. The results showed that their distant vision, stereopsis, and accommodative functions were normal. However, the eyestrain index, visual motor reaction time, reading ability and mental workload of the female drivers were significantly worse than for the controlled group. The post-work's near point convergence, visual motor reaction time and error rates were significantly worse after work as compared to before work, which indicated that fatigue occurred. The visual motor reaction time was an important part in evaluating the fatigue of female crane drivers.
