TY - JOUR PY - 1998// TI - Hip fracture prevention: a review JO - American journal of orthopedics (Belle Mead NJ) A1 - Dubey, A. A1 - Koval, K. J. A1 - Zuckerman, J. D. SP - 407 EP - 412 VL - 27 IS - 6 N2 - The incidence of hip fractures worldwide is expected to almost quadruple in the next 60 years. Increased cost-containment pressures will focus attention not only on improvements in hip fracture treatment but also on prevention. Three approaches that can prevent hip fractures--preventing falls, preventing and treating bone fragility, and using external hip protectors--are reviewed. Although it is impossible to prevent all hip fractures, these methods may significantly reduce the annual incidence of these fractures.
