The number of hip fractures is increasing exponentially, and their treatment costs place great economic strain on society. Recently developed hip fracture treatments, emphasizing cost containment, deformity prevention, and evidence-based medicine, are attempts to optimize patient outcomes. In this article, we outline some of these developments with respect to femoral neck and intertrochanteric fractures.
