TY - JOUR PY - 1999// TI - The right to survival and development JO - Medicine, conflict and survival A1 - Gustafsson, L. SP - 328 EP - 335 VL - 15 IS - 4 N2 - The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child grew out of protests against the male-dominated violence of war, particularly in the Balkans, during two world wars. Many children have been killed, disabled, made homeless, and psychologically traumatized, particularly in intrastate wars, since the Second World War. Recently, large numbers of children have become soldiers, often after violent indoctrination. Several community-based measures to prevent this abuse of children's rights are proposed.
