N2  - This paper is a review of the Second International Seminar on Structural Reliability of Mechanical Components and Subassemblies of Nuclear Power Plants, held August 20-21, 1979 at Berlin, West Germany. The seminar was attended by utility, university and industry representatives as well as by members of government and regulatory agencies. The meeting focused on four particular topics covering the spectrum of the development and application of reliability studies to nuclear power plant facilities. The discussions revealed the increasing need of probabilistic methods for realistic design. Areas in which progress was made have been indicated along with fields which urgently need further development.<p />
