N2  - This paper introduces a diagram which provides a schematic indication of the case for structural reliability of any component. The construction of the diagram is possible even though very little information is available about the distribution of defects and fracture toughness in the component. The paper presents the method by which these structural reliability diagrams can illustrate the influence which a large number of manufacturing and operating conditions have on the reliability of the component.<p />
