N2  - The purpose of this paper is to identify some of the practical difficulties which arise when one attempts to plan and monitor reliability growth using the mathematical models available. So often the merit or otherwise of a growth model seems only to be discussed in terms of how well it fits development data retrospectively; yet a model is surely only useful if it can be used predictively for planning and decision making.<p />
