N2  - Some new research on the theory of structure analysis and quantitative analysis of fault trees is described in this paper. The concept of the minimum relative subtree is put forward for the first time, and some conclusions are reached. Based on these conclusions a new algorithm for the quantitative analysis of fault trees is formed. A computer code named QAFT is written in FORTRAN-IV according to the algorithm. Large fault trees can be analysed with micro-computer using this code.<p />
