N2  - Starting from simulated histograms of typical crack size distributions the difficulties in attributing a unique distribution function to a specific histogram are investigated. A curve-fitting procedure, which can be employed for the calculation of failure probabilities in probabilistic fracture mechanics, is established.<p />
