TY - JOUR PY - 1991// TI - Fire risk in buildings: Frequency of exposure and physical model JO - Fire safety journal A1 - Brandyberry, Mark D. A1 - Apostolakis, George E. SP - 339 EP - 361 VL - 17 IS - 5 N2 - This work proposes a methodology for assessing the frequency of exposure of a consumer product in a building to an ignition source and presents a heat transfer model for use in a scenario where, as an example, upholstered furniture is the target product and an auxiliary heating device (electric heaters, wood stoves) is the ignition source. A probability distribution of the frequency of exposure of consumer products to these auxiliary heating devices is presented and a discussion on the use and verification of the heat transfer model is given. Discussion on the coupling of these results with explicit scenario analyses to arrive at the ignition frequency of a product is also provided.
