TY - JOUR PY - 1985// TI - Building fire simulation model. an overview JO - Fire safety journal A1 - Fahy, Rita F. SP - 189 EP - 203 VL - 9 IS - 2 N2 - The Building Fire Simulation Model (BFSM) allows the user to examine the interrelationships among fire development, spread of combustion products, and people movement in residential occupancies. It was developed using data from full-scale fire tests conducted by various organizations. In the BFSM, fire growth is defined in terms of discrete stages, called 'realms', which define observably different phases of fire growth. The levels of combustion products estimated by the model are based on the realm the fire is in and the time in that realm. The ability of people to escape depends on these estimated levels of combustion products throughout the building being modeled.
