N2  - Recent measurements of rise times of plumes from suddenly initiated steady fires versus observation height have been expressed as a constant dimensionless rise time. Rise times deduced from the literature for t-squared, power-law fire growth have also been expressed as a constant dimensionless rise time, and the behavior for the two fire types related. Available theories for suddenly initiated steady fires underestimate rise times.<p />
