TY - JOUR PY - 1986// TI - Flame spread over fuel-soaked ground JO - Fire safety journal A1 - Ishida, H. SP - 163 EP - 171 VL - 10 IS - 3 N2 - The flame spread phenomenon over ground soaked with spilled liquid fuel has been studied experimentally using n-decane and a glass beads bed as the fuel and the ground model respectively. The velocity of flame spread over the fuel-soaked ground decreases considerably compared with that over the liquid fuel pool surface. The effects of beads diameter, beads temperature, surface thermal conductivity and surface inclination angle of the ground on the flame spread characteristics and on the flame spread velocity were studied in detail. Experimental results showed that the ratio of fuel supply rate by capillary rise effect (from the interior to the surface of the ground) to fuel consumption rate may have large effects on the flame behavior and on the flame spread velocity.
