TY - JOUR PY - 1991// TI - Fire behaviour of ducts JO - Fire safety journal A1 - Kruppa, J SP - 135 EP - 146 VL - 17 IS - 2 N2 - Ducts are used in buildings for air venting or for smoke extraction. In both cases they have to go through fire walls. In this respect ducts have to provide enough fire resistance to avoid transfer of fire from one compartment to another. France has testing methodologies to assess the fire behaviour of ducts. In these testing methodologies an air flow is inside the duct. This air flow is provided by fresh air for air venting or hot gas for smoke extraction. Tests results on ducts are studied, and a study of parameters with a numerical model is given. The major conclusion of this paper is that ducts are dynamic systems and in this respect their behaviour cannot really be assessed by just one or two tests.
