TY - JOUR PY - 1986// TI - Quantification of explosion parameters for combustible fuel-air mixtures JO - Fire safety journal A1 - Rasbash, D. J. SP - 113 EP - 125 VL - 11 IS - 1-2 N2 - The major factors which affect the occurence and progress of explosions in mixtures with air of flammable gases, vapours, dusts and mists have been surveyed. These include limits of flammability, burning velocity in laminar and turbulent conditions, and the conditions which may give rise to detonation. The violence of explosions that may take place in closed systems and in the open, is also briefly surveyed including the onset of pressure piling and overdriven detonations. The relevance of maximum rate of pressure rise in a closed bomb as a measure of potential violence, particularly for dust explosions is discussed. Brief notes are provided on various methods of protection against fuel/air explosions.
